Who We Are
Most small business owners don't need more reports. They need someone who can explain what the reports mean and help them make better decisions. Rock Steady was built on that idea.

A lot of small business owners have had the same experience. You get your monthly reports, the numbers check out, but you're still not sure what to do with them. You want to know if you can afford another employee, whether your margins are healthy, or how to get through a slow stretch. But those conversations never happen because your bookkeeper's job ends at the reports.
Rock Steady was built to change that. We keep your books clean and reconciled, and then we go further. We help you read your numbers, plan your cash flow, and think through the financial side of real business decisions. Hiring, pricing, growth, affordability. These are the conversations we have with our clients because that's where bookkeeping actually starts to matter.
We work with small businesses throughout Wisconsin. Restaurants and bakeries tracking inventory and tipped employees. Contractors managing job costs. Retail shops handling sales tax and seasonal swings. Cleaning companies, property managers, professional service firms, and creative businesses. The industries vary, but the clients are similar. Owners who want reliable books and a real partner in understanding their finances.
Most of our work is done remotely, which keeps things efficient and makes geography a non-issue for clients anywhere in the state. When you have a question, you hear back from someone who already knows your situation. That's what we mean by steady.
Meet Laura Prater
Laura has over ten years of accounting experience working with small businesses across Wisconsin. She is a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor and a member of the National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers and the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers.
Her client experience spans a wide range of industries. Restaurants, franchises, general contractors, retail shops, property management companies, bakeries, gyms, professional cleaning businesses, and creative professionals. That variety has given her a sharp eye for the patterns that show up across different types of businesses and the specific financial challenges each one faces.
What led Laura to start Rock Steady was something she saw again and again throughout her career. Business owners were making decisions about hiring, pricing, and growth without really understanding the numbers behind those decisions. The books might have been done correctly, but nobody was helping them see the full picture. That gap between accurate records and actual understanding was costing owners real money and real opportunity.
That belief became Rock Steady's foundation. Laura's approach is to teach, not just tally. She wants her clients to look at their financials and feel confident about what they're seeing. Not because the numbers are pretty, but because they understand what those numbers mean for their business and what to do next.
Rock Steady is based in Beaver Dam and serves businesses throughout Dodge County and across Wisconsin. You can reach Laura directly at any time.
